Back Pain
Low back pain is of epidemic proportion in the UK. The causes are of course varied and are as much about a lack of activity (i.e. excessive sitting due to occupation) as they are due to deficiencies in gait.
Any
factor that hinders forward progression causes an asymmetry in foot or
lower limb function. This may also lead to an alteration in the “balance
of forces” as the patient progresses that can cause impact on spinal
function. Also, patients who have suffered an acute episode of back
pain are often left with flexibility, power and postural deficits which
if not detected through gait analysis are more challenging to treat
effectively.
